Spider Cupcakes

Impress your friends and family with these spooky spider cupcakes this Halloween. They're quick and easy to make and will look great on the table at your Halloween party.


For the Cupcakes
100g (4oz) butter, softened
100g (4oz) caster sugar
100g (4oz) self raising flour
2 eggs
 
For the Icing
100g (4oz) butter, softened
225g (8oz) icing sugar
30ml (2tbsp) milk
A few drops of vanilla essence
Make the Cupcakes
1) Cream together the butter and caster sugar until it is light and fluffy
2) Beat in the eggs one at a time, adding a tablespoon of flour for each one
3) Gently fold in the remaining flour with a metal spoon
4) Place cupcake cases in a muffin tin and spoon the mixture into the cases (about 6 cakes)
5) Bake the cupcakes in a pre-heated oven (gas mark 4 / 180°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until risen and golden brown
6) Remove from the oven and allow the cakes to cool
 
The Icing on the Cakes
1) Beat the butter until it is soft
2) Gradually beat in the sugar and milk
3) Beat the mixture until it is light and fluffy
4) Stir in the vanilla and the brown colouring then put the mixture in the fridge to chill a little
5) Use and icing bag and pipe the icing onto the cooled cupcakes
For the Legs
We used Matchmakers to make the legs. Break each stick in half to make two legs
 
For the Faces
For the eyes, we used black food colour to paint a dot on white chocolate buttons
Cut another white chocolate button in half to use as a mouth
Gently press the eyes and mouths onto the icing to create a smiley face
